This page is for my favorite art pieces that I made before college. The majority of my art in high school was digital sketchbooks so there weren't specific assignments or consistent themes between them other than what I liked.
This is one of my favorite art pieces I've ever made, I took a photo of my leopard gecko Arrakis and redrew him in a low-poly art style. I've outlined the process I used below.
This is the original image
First, I traced the contours on his body to give a better sense of the shapes to preserve for the piece
Next, I used the contours to draw a wire frame of the final design. This step took a while as I had to make sure that lines were placed correctly even on tiny areas like his feet
Finally, I colored it in, with the shading based off of an imaginary light source rather than the original photo. I stuck to a couple specific shades for each color and progressively made adjacent triangles darker or lighter, with a couple areas having the same color because the image didn't work with different ones.
